Training

The following courses and training are required to be completed by all Cape Egmont Sea Rescue Trust crew:

Maritime Search and Rescue Theory Level One – 12 papers including, NZ Search and Rescue System, Personal Safety, Legal Considerations, Towing Techniques, Victim Recovery, Man Overboard Procedures, Search Techniques, Working With Aircraft, Emergency Repairs, On Scene Command, Boat Handling and Heavy Weather.

Practical work, building to COC Masters certificate - Full medical competency including eye test, night training: 25 hours, and sea time accrued in local area: 250 hours

RYA Power Boating practical Masters Navigation and Charts Boat Masters course or equivalent (Information and courses provided by qualified tutors Graham Cowling, Dave Duncan, Chris Musgrave).

  • Boat Race Training: course provided by qualified crew
  • Callout Procedures: Tested monthly
  • First Aid: course provided by Red Cross
  • CIMS Course/Incident management control: Woodgroup MandO
  • Leadership: course provided by TOPEC
